Imposter Syndrome: 3 Limiting Beliefs that Are Holding You Back from Being Who You Were Created to Be

Feeling like an imposter despite your efforts? You’re not alone. But fear not, there’s a way out of this mindset trap.

Before I found Jesus, I tried every guide and self-help article I could find.

I felt lost in a sea of conflicting advice. But through perseverance and the Truth, I discovered that we don’t have to navigate this journey alone.

Join me as we explore common limiting beliefs that might be hindering your progress and learn how to transform them into sources of strength.

Read on for some sneaky limiting beliefs that may be holding you back from becoming who God created you to be. You can turn these limiting beliefs into your superpowers.

Limiting Belief #1: Everyone is Ahead of Me

With endless scrolling and social media, it can feel like you’re constantly behind these days. You become overwhelmed and overstimulated, causing you to spiral into the belief that everyone is ahead of you and doing greater things than you.

First, challenge your belief. After all, it’s just a belief and you have no proof that it’s reality (spoiler: it’s NOT!)

Once you have the answers, think about what it would be like to do the opposite. What would it be like to tap into your highest self, truly believing that God has you exactly where you’re supposed to be?

Here’s what God’s Word says:

“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel” (Galatians 1:6).

These limitations and constraints you’re placing on yourself are preventing you from becoming more like Christ. What gospel are you believing in? One of fear, doubt, and comparison, or one of faith, hope, and love?

“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10).

Limiting Belief #2 – I Have to do X First Before I’m Content in Who I Am

“I’ll be happy as soon as I get to this benchmark.”

Sound familiar?

It’s common to put our value in what we’re achieving.

But you know what?

God has so much more for you than your business goals.

What God’s Word Says:

“…for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:11-13).

You’re probably familiar with the second half of that verse–that you can do all things through Christ. It’s also important to look at the former verses about contentment.

God doesn’t only give you the ability to do all things through Him, but He supplies you with everything you need to be content, moment by moment.

It’s important to set goals, but don’t let those goals determine your value or contentment. There is so much freedom available to you, friend!

Limiting Belief #3: I’m Not Enough

Truth is, you’re actually not enough.

We were created with a deep need for a Savior to rescue us from our own sin and devastation.

What God’s Word Says:

When you’re falling into the pit of despair and comparison, remember that God is a God of promises and faithfulness, and He is going to bless you exceedingly when you surrender these thoughts to Him.

“He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without me you can do nothing” (John 15:4-5).

You’re making great progress!

It’s time to turn your limiting beliefs into empowering beliefs! If you find yourself falling into Imposter Syndrome, think about what may be holding you back. Write down 10 limiting beliefs, and don’t be afraid to see them on paper.

We all have them, remember? It’s what you do with them that counts.

Will you push through and keep going? You bet you will!

Jesus is going to bless your endurance, friend.
